On September 4th, the opening ceremony of College of International Education (Guangzhou Dublin International College) at South China Agricultural University for 2024 students was held in Ding Ying Auditorium. The members of Party and Government Committee, faculties, class teachers and freshmen attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Hao Gang, Vice president of the college.
Dean Feng Lixin extended a warm welcome to the freshmen, introduced South China Agricultural University and the college, and said that the college would continue to adhere to the characteristics of development, and constantly pursue excellence, so that every student could give full play to their potential and advantages, and realize all-round personal and professional development. At the same time, he encouraged the students to be confident, keep in mind hard work, wisdom and dedication, and pursue further personal progress academically to achieve success in life.
Ms. Liang Hongmei, the representative of Chinese teachers, said that the college is committed to promoting Sino-foreign education cooperation, integration and innovation, and encouraged students to improve their critical thinking, effective communication and independent learning skills while taking root in China, build bridges between different cultures, realize their dreams through hard work, perseverance and confidence, and look forward to a bright future with confidence.
Aisling Reilly, representative of foreign teachers from University College Dublin, Ireland, said that the college and the faculty team are committed to creating an environment that stimulates students' curiosity, encourages learning and progress, and that the students' dedication and enthusiasm for learning is the biggest return for the hard work of the faculty members. She also expressed gratitude to the college for the help and support for foreign teachers and said she looks forward to further cooperation between the two universities in teaching and research.
Ms. Deng Rui, a freshmen from Biological Science programme, spoke on behalf of the freshmen. She came from Beijiang Middle School, Guangdong, the Alma Mater of Academician Liu Yaoguang. Academician Liu Yaoguang's pursuit of excellence in scientific research had a profound impact on her, and she resolutely chose Biological Science programme at SCAU. In her speech, she mentioned that she would pass on the Ding Ying spirit of study diligently, cultivating virtues and practicing personally, broaden her international vision, comprehensively improve her personal quality, work hard, persevere in order to prosper our country.
As the representative of the senior students, Xiao Bozhi, from 2023 Horticulture programme, gave a speech. She encouraged the freshmen to learn professional knowledge, keep a positive attitude, learn from excellent senior students, think and discuss positively, participate in a variety of clubs and campus activities, improve their ability to find and solve problems, and build a better self within four years.
The head teacher is the mentor in students' life and the backbone of education management. In the "Class Teacher Appointment" part, Secretary of the Party Committee Shao Jiasheng issued a letter of appointment to the class teachers for 2024 students, encouraging teachers to guide students to make progress and become talents based on moral education.
Finally, some representatives of 2024 freshmen participated in the shooting of the theme video of "Words from bottom of the heart in university, sailing with dreams", expressing their expectations and aspirations for university life. Some representatives of outstanding alumni sent blessings and encouragement to the freshmen. Li Wanyi, a freshman from accounting programme said, "What I expect from my college life is to become more courageous, challenge more new things, develop the habit of keeping fit and improve my English ability." Qiu Minxuan, freshman from Biological Science programme said, "In college, I hope to take root in my favorite field, lay a solid foundation for my future career, and witness a brilliant future." Wang Ziqi, freshman from Computer Science and Technology programme said, "I hope to integrate the power of the Times and the majestic power in the computer to contribute to the development of the times and pay tribute to the motherland with the power of youth."
A new chapter has begun, and preparation is the prerequisite for success. The freshmen will be full of confidence, pursue light, be ambitious and diligent, so as to further pursue progress personally and academically and harvest success in life.
