Focusing on High-Quality Development to Build a New Development Pattern - The College Convenes 2024 Work Deployment Meeting

The College convened a 2024 work deployment meeting on March 29, with the theme of 'Focusing on high-quality development, building a new development pattern, gathering together and striving to start a new journey', in order to firmly implement the university's major tasks for 2024 and continue promoting the opening up of high-level education. The meeting was chaired by Dean Feng Lixin and attended by all faculty members.

During the meeting, the heads of General Committee Office (Student Affairs Office), Sino-Foreign Cooperation Office (English Teaching Center), and International Student Office presented a comprehensive review of their respective work and its impact, analyzed the opportunities and challenges ahead, and proposed future plans and measures. Party Secretary Shao Jiasheng, Vice Dean Zhao Lihong, and Vice Dean Hao Gang outlined key tasks for their departments.


The meeting also included the meeting on undergraduate education and teaching inspection and evaluation as well as the mobilization meeting for Chinese-foreign cooperation evaluation. Vice Dean Hao Gang analyzed the college's participation in the 2023 assessment of undergraduate teaching work, combined with the new round of teaching inspection and evaluation work plan, and clarified key tasks to prepare for the evaluation and promote development. Dean Feng Lixin mobilized the Chinese-foreign cooperation evaluation, providing an understanding of its significance, content, process, methods, and evaluation index system.

Feng Lixin has made a comprehensive deployment of the college's work, emphasizing that the college, as the main functional department and centralized management department for international education, should closely align with the central work tasks and annual objectives of the university. It should take on the responsibility of training international talents with core competitiveness and establish a long-term mechanism to enhance the quality of international talent training. The college needs to increase its efforts in introducing, absorbing, integrating, and innovating high-quality foreign educational resources. It should also coordinate and promote the allocation and sharing of domestic and foreign high-quality educational resources, as well as facilitate the mutual flow of educational elements to build a new model and ecology for international education that serves student growth. Furthermore, it is essential to optimize and improve talent training systems compatible with Sino-foreign cooperation education, promote the establishment of a Sino-foreign academic community, and support local international education's high-quality development. Lastly, it is essential to align with the national strategy, adhere to the simultaneous development of 'bringing in' and 'sending out', facilitate continuous enhancement of the quality of international students in China, conduct a series of activities for them to gain insights into China, innovate the national education model, and establish the brand of 'Study in China'.


Feng Lixin emphasized that the training of international talents is the cornerstone of the college, and the college should adhere to the principles of 'three educations', 'five developments' and 'six efforts'. It should always stick to the timeless theme of teaching quality as a lifeline and focus on cultivating international first-class talents with a global perspective and sense of responsibility. A holistic, systematic, and innovative approach is needed, along with coordinated efforts in clarifying functional positioning, strengthening accountability, emphasizing high-quality development, highlighting international characteristics, building a new development model, and addressing global uncertainties. It is essential to maintain a problem-oriented, goal-oriented, result-oriented approach while continuously improving student quality, enhancing process services, optimizing school management structure, upgrading educational standards, cultivating academic achievements, refining school features, highlighting educational outcomes, and expanding reputation in order to promote overall improvement in all aspects, whole-process service and comprehensive effectiveness of international education at our institution. Adherence to 'evaluation for construction promotion', 'evaluation for reform promotion', 'evaluation for management promotion', and 'evaluation for strength promotion' will be crucial in implementing high-quality evaluation requirements that identify and address developmental challenges faced by our institution. This will help achieve integration between evaluation and construction while focusing on constructive measures. With forward-looking vision and consciousness we can deepen education reform through promoting connotation development, characteristic development, innovative development so as to comprehensively improve the quality of international talent training.

In the summary, Shao Jiasheng, the secretary of the Party Committee, emphasized that the spring strategy seminar in the new semester has established the '4+2' key work scheme. It was also clarified that 2024 will be a pivotal year for the university's 'double first-class' construction, undergraduate education and teaching inspection and evaluation, service of 'millions of projects', as well as marking the 115th anniversary of the university. The college should thoroughly comprehend and align with the division of tasks set for 2024 by the school strategy seminar, integrating them with the initiatives outlined at this meeting to effectively advance their implementation.


Shao Jiasheng emphasized that the college should seize this opportunity to initiate significant changes, make substantial progress, and embark on a new chapter. The focus will be on the '4+2' key initiatives of the school and the core work of the college, with an aim to launch a new journey. It is imperative to lead overall development through party building, grasp the new stage of development, implement fresh concepts for growth, construct innovative patterns for advancement, promote simultaneous improvements in party building and business operations, and propel international education towards greater achievements with heightened enthusiasm and practicality.
