In the third week of the new semester, Alex Runchman, Director of the English Teaching Center at Guangzhou Dublin College (GDIC), and Stephen Kelly, Director of the English Teaching Center, convened an offline meeting for Year 1 and 2 students at GDIC. Agnieszka King, GDIC Project Manager, was also in attendance.
Alex Runchman and Stephen Kelly introduced to the studnets the English curriculum, instructional content, teaching prerequisites, grading criteria. They articulated the learning objectives and tasks for each stage, and imparted practical and effective English learning strategies. Alex emphasized the importance of establishing a solid foundation in English during the first and second grades to facilitate students' adaptation to advanced English courses. He expressed his hope that students would be able to keep pace with their instructors' teaching pace and steadily enhance their proficiency in English step by step.
In the interactive session, Alex and Stephen organized the students into various groups to engage in discussions on designing a sustainable farm and presenting persuasive arguments to attract potential investors. Additionally, three teachers actively participated in guiding the group discussions.
The students expressed that the lecture provided them with a more comprehensive understanding of the English course, enhanced their confidence in leanring, and proved to be invaluable for future English course preparation and study. They are committed to approaching the new semester's learning tasks with more enthusiasm and readiness.
